19 of the Russian's twenty-one titles have been earned on hardcourt

A resurgent Medvedev secured his initial trophy for 882 days with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the competition final.

The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has had a challenging year, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and experiencing a setback at the American major.

The player's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and issues with his service game in especial - caused him dropping out of the top ten and ultimately parting ways with former trainer his previous coach.

Currently training with his coach and his other coach, the tennis star has consistently improved in the recent weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This represents the player's first title after the Rome competition and first on a hard court after that period of the previous year.

The win also signifies the Russian has secured twenty-one victories at 21 distinct events.

"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my both daughters at once, so to get a trophy is really nice," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my younger daughter her name, because the maiden victory I won when my child my daughter was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had lost his previous six championship matches, comprising in that event in the past months.

Medvedev's defensive approach and frequent outbursts on the playing surface had led observers to question if his skill to compete at the highest level was over.

Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to come to the net and play assertively, backed up by an improved serve.

Medvedev came back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the challenging Moutet, taking 4 of the last five exchanges to go ahead.

The competitors exchanged service breaks in the second set before Moutet, bidding for his initial professional victory, seized the initiative to push for a decider.

The opponent rescued four early-game opportunities in a close deciding set before the champion broke to 15 to secure the win.

Suitably, the winner secured the win with a point at the front of the court, with the Frenchman failing to manage a return after a lengthy match.
